Ben Affleck Batman Film Will Be ‘Mostly Original’
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was somewhat controversial in its own right. From certain casting and character decisions to just how it was received, there has definitely been a ton of conversation regarding BvS. There has been news that Zack Snyder was reined in; Ben Affleck was pushed up to Executive Producer; Charles Roven’s involvement was greatly reduced, and WB created their own DC Films branch. Whew! BvS definitely shook things up for better or worse. One of the bigger pieces of news to come out of all of this is that the currently untitled Ben Affleck Batman film will be ‘mostly original’. Wait, how exactly does that work out?
“I think what I would do, what I probably would do, is in some ways what Zack did with this movie, which is to borrow certain things from the great comic books, but create an original story around it because I wouldn’t want the fans to already know the story and be familiar, but I would borrow, steal, great things that have been done before in the comics,” clarified Affleck.
Many fans have speculated that we might be seeing a Jason Todd or Red Hood story due to the presence of the destroyed Robin costume in Batman V Superman. It very well could be, come to think of it – Zack Snyder ‘made’ his own story by borrowing elements from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight series so it wouldn’t be that much of a far cry with Batman. If anything, I would think that the Ben Affleck Batman film will play it safe – they wouldn’t write a completely original story because they have no idea how the audience will react. Normally I would say that isn’t a problem but something tells me that WB and DC definitely have their ear to the ground on this one!
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
