Ben Affleck Confirms the Title of His Standalone Batman Film
We know there’s a standalone Batman movie on the way. We know Ben Affleck is, obviously, reprising his critically lauded Batman role, and co-writing and directing the film. We’re also quite sure it will star a modest selection of Batman’s Rogues Gallery – perhaps due to a collective exodus from Arkham Asylum – and specifically Jon Manganiello as Deathstroke. What we DON’T know is the actual name of the film. Wait. Scratch that. During an interview with The Associated Press regarding Affleck’s latest film, The Accountant, Ben actually confirmed the title of his standalone Batman film. Well, he’s pretty sure it’s the title, unless he feels an urge to change it later.
“The movie, I think, is going to be called The Batman,” Affleck said. “I think that’s what we’re going with now. I might change it. That’s about it, that’s all I got. We’re working on the script, it’s going well, I’m really excited about it, and I assure you, if anything develops, you’ll hear about it.”
The Batman. I suppose this makes sense, as it sounds like something of an introduction, or reintroduction, considering it’s a new (to us) Batman inhabiting a world where there’s obviously years of history to cover. So, cinematically, this is a new and different take on Batman, hence the need for a return to roots heralded by a simple, non-distracting title. Something like that.
