Quicksilver Actor Confirms His Parentage!
A richer, more familial relationship between Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) was hinted at rather overtly during their brief meeting in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. After Quicksilver aided a desperate, time-displaced Wolverine with the forced emancipation of Magneto – held securely in a prison beneath the Pentagon – he and the usually militant, magnetically empowered mutant shared a rather quiet, awkward moment. After said rescue, and chambered in an elevator lifting them to freedom-land, Quicksilver commented on Magneto’s unique gift, turning and stating dryly, “They told me you control metal. You know, my mom once knew a guy who could do that.”
And then the scene just sort of hung there. Deliberately. Why? Because, if you’re a comic book reader, specifically of the X-Men series of comics (anywhere from 10-756 titles offered in monthly allotments), you’re very aware of Quicksilver and Magneto’s often contentious, yet blood-bonded relationship; Eric Lehnsherr is Peter Maximoff’s father. WHOAH!
So, back to that dangling scene intimating the characters’ shared, comic book history. Does that mean FOX’s filmic X-Men universe will stick to comic canon? Will Quicksilver and Magneto’s relationship parallel the history developed and detailed in countless years of graphic, sequential continuity??
In a recent interview with our friends at JoBlo, during an X-Men: Apocalypse exposé (that was in no way scandalous), actor Evan Peters assuaged our heated speculation with the silver-booted stomping of impervious fact, stating, “I have learned that he’s my father at this point and I am trying to … I don’t know what I can say. It’s like an adoptive child or any kind of child who has a strange father trying to … He knows who he is now so he is trying to find him. He’s been searching for him. It’s been 10 years and he hasn’t found him and then something happens.”
And there you go.
After that matter-of-fact revelation, Peters spoke of Quicksilver’s reappearance in May’s X-Men: Apocalypse, about the challenge to top Quicksilver’s scene-stealing debut in Days of Future Past, and the forthcoming, successful results.
“Yeah, I think that’s been the hardest thing,” Peters explained. “Can we top it? They did such a f—ing awesome job. The special effects team is amazing. Bryan Schmears over at Second Unit, everybody just made that whole sequence awesome, I thought. I was just a minion. They just told me what to do so I didn’t really have much to do with it but I was curious to see how they were going to top it and if they could and I think they have. I’m very excited to see it myself. I’m excited for everybody to see it because we’ve been working hard on it.”
Heck, Peters even commented on the existence of ‘Quicksilver Mark II’ who appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It seems he’s quite okay with it, and even a little disappointed with the apparent departure of his cinematic counterpart.
“They could always bring him back to life somehow or there could be another studio that starts making superhero films and throw Quicksilver in there,” said Peters. “I was really confused as to why they killed him. I thought it was really cool. It was a different take on the character, completely different. Scarlet Witch was there and yeah, I was kind of bummed that they killed him.”
Good, grief, Peters. You’re such an upstanding, understanding young man. KUDOS, sir!
