Confirmed! Robert Downey Jr. Joins the Cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming
….and yes, he’ll be portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man. DUH! Anyway, yes, we knew this was coming, but thanks to our friends at The Hollywood Reporter the official word just hit about .000076 seconds ago: Robert Downey Junior’s Tony Stark/Iron Man will be joining Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the forthcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film; this story will take place about a year after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Well, I guess we know Spider-Man and Iron Man survive the multiple hero melee, so..uh….SPOILER ALERT (maybe)??? So, Robert Downey Jr. joins the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and we here at The Source are pretty FREAKING excited about it. Why? I’ll TELL you why!
1. Because the presence of Marvel Studios’ cash cow (Downey) in a Marvel/Sony Pictures venture will only benefit the MCU Spider-Man. Big time.
2. Because the Stark/Parker relationship could be comparable to a father/son relationship. Sure, Stark might start out as a mentor to a very big Stark-fan, but a relationship born from a mutual love of technology, super-science and super-heroics, coupled with Peter’s very obvious need for a father figure, may turn into something a little more personal.
3. Because a scene with Spider-Man riding on Iron Man’s back – whilst in flight -might be all I need in order to die peacefully.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Junior (for real this time) and Michael Keaton. So far. We’ll keep you updated as we wring more necessary details from the always hemorrhaging media-machine!!
