Russia’s Own Superhero Movie: The Guardians

Looks like superheroes really are a global phenomenon! The above trailer shows off Russia’s own superhero movie, which is called The Guardians in English, and it certainly looks to be an interesting take on the genre! You get to see the heroes imbued with their powerful abilities in the very first trailer. There is a 2nd trailer as well, which you can watch below, that features a sword-dueling, super-fast ninja tearing through machine guns and trucks! Well, they certainly aren’t messing around with subtext but we probably don’t need that with Russia’s own superhero movie.

As per the Wikipedia entry, “Zaschitniki (In Russian: «Защитники»; The Defenders) is a Russian neo-noir superhero film directed by Armenian director Sarik Andreasyan and starring Sebastien Sisak, Anton Pampuchniy, Sanzhar Madiev, Alina Lanina, Valeria Shkirando and Stanislav Shirin. It is set to be released in February 2017.

The film is set in an alternate history at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, as a group of Soviet superheroes were created during the Cold War. The group includes representatives of the different nationalities of the USSR, superpowers protagonists reflect strengths and traditions of the people of the USSR.”
