Star Wars: The Force Awakens Breaks Box Office Record
In breakneck speed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has the domestic box office record. In approximately 20 days the film has passed the $760.5 million mark set by Avatar just six years ago. The only difference is that Avatar took seven months to set their record mark whereas Star Wars: The Force Awakens took less than a month to break it. With no looming threat to its box office reign, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will not stop their merciless box office slaughter anytime soon. Just yesterday the film made $8 million domestically and $13 million internationally which is absolutely unheard of for a film in its third week. I am sure Disney is not kicking themselves for the $4-billion they paid to acquire Lucasfilm.
Disney will now be looking to beat the global box office record currently held by Avatar at $2.788 billion. After they pass that mark I am sure that Disney will be looking to clean up at the Academy Awards. The last Star Wars film to do well at the Academy Awards won six Oscars for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Effects (visual) and Best Music (original score). That film was also nominated for four Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Director and Best Writing (screenplay written directly for the screen). Will Star Wars: The Force Awakens take the cake for best movie of all time and take home the Oscar for best film?
