Will Star-Lord ‘Star’ in Infinity War?
While Captain America: Civil War is a sure bet to become a massive blockbuster and pull in an ungodly amount of money, it’s never too early to look to the future. The movie will kick-start Marvel’s Phase 3 and will be the starting point for the cinematic race to The Avengers: Inifinity War.
The men behind Civil War, the Russo Brothers, are book-ending Phase 3 by also tackling the next Avengers go-around. They will be the deciding voices regarding who’s in the lineup and who’s out. Apparently they already made their minds up regarding one intergalactic rebel.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, the Russo’s sat down to discuss the present and future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That included some praise for the upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2.
“The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers but I’m a big fan of what James Gunn has done. [Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited.”
You can read that however you’d like, but Anthony Russo seems to confirm that they’re working with Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in Infinity War. Could he assist the Avengers? Will he even return to Earth? All too early to tell. Still, knowing a fan-favorite character like Star-Lord is prepping for an appearance in the two part Avengers showdown is kind of exciting.
Now, if we’re getting Star-Lord what does that mean for the rest of the Guardians of The Galaxy? Will Drax show up? How about Rocket or Groot? Clearly Gamora could lend a helpful hand. Well, the Russo’s did talk about how they can’t wait to incorporate another out of this world character into the fold.
“I’m excited to work with Thor,” says co-Director Joe Russo. “They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”
We all could have guessed Thor would be showing up in Infinity War in some capacity. He’s one of the original Avengers and needs to be on hand to represent Asgard. What shape, or mentality, will he be in after Ragnarok… who knows? But by the time Thanos shows his face, Thor will be there to bring the hammer down.
We won’t get to see how The Avengers: Infinity War plays out, or who’s even in it until the movie makes its way into theaters in 2018. That’s the bad news. The good news? The path to Infinity Wars starts May 6th, when Captain America: Civil War kicks off Phase 3 of the MCU.
Sorry… no Star-Lord or Thor in that one.
