5 Takeaways from The Flash Season 3 Episode 4: “The New Rogues”
These are the 5 things that elbowed us in the basal ganglia (and sometimes in a good way) as we watched The Flash Season 3 Episode 4: The New Rogues.” And, our observations are a little “spoilery,” so… if you’re catching this later, I would bookmark this article and join us tomorrow morning. Still with us? Good, we’re always glad to have ya’.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
We’ve been waiting for Mirror Master since season one, and he has arrived. Thankfuly, it isn’t even a little disappointing. Grey Damon kills it as the suave, John Dillinger-esque Sam Scudder, and the show kills it in its execution of Scudder’s oddball powers. As the throwback bank robber, Scudder really brings a fresh element of classic villainy to The Flash and I look forward to seeing more of this masterful rogue. Bonus points for also including the fact that a more classic version of the character, mirror gun and all, exists on Earth-2 just in case The Flash wants to get old-school with Mirror Master.

Top to Bottom
Not so successful was the introduction of Rosalind Dillon – the Top. I’m totally cool with the gender-swapping of the Top (and I give the show props for avoiding the obvious BDSM joke), but the vertigo powers left me feeling a bit flat. How much cooler would it have been if Rosalind followed in the comic Top’s footsteps and was a genius inventor that weaponized toys? The vertigo thing was kind of obvious and derivative of a bunch of other similarly powered characters, no? Points for incorporating the Top’s classic colors into Rosalind’s skirt, though.

Happy Days Are Here Again
How refreshing is it just to sit through a superhero versus super-villain episode of The Flash? No, timey-wimey recriminations or chronal regrets, just colorful heroes versus colorful villains in a showdown of good versus bad with lots of humor and intrigue along the way. Don’t get me wrong, Flashpoint has been fun and intense, but sometimes, it’s just nice to get all Silver Age-y and play the hits.

League of Extraordinary Harrys
Well, I guess Tom Cavanagh is going to have a blast moving forward. This week, Earth-2 Harry has to go back to his world with his daughter. In his place, the team found a new Harry Wells, a fun loving, dimension-hopping hipster Harry that seems like he’s going to be a blast. And really, the story potential here is pretty endless. You want to see Tom Cavanagh flex his acting muscles? It looks like The Flash will provide endless opportunities with endless Harrys. This week, we get to see mime Harry, steampunk Harry, over the top British Harry, and the new hip-hop hipster Harry. This is one of those plot devices that shouldn’t work but does anyway in spite of the innate silliness inherent in the concept.

Frost
To escape from a mirror prison this week, Barry needs intense cold to solidify the molecules of Mirror Master’s trap. Hey, it’s a good thing Caitlin Snow is slowly transforming into Killer Frost. This is something fans have waited to see since season one and also got teased with last year. But now, we all love Caitlin like our own sister so this is so frighteningly dramatic as our dear, dear Ms. Snow begins her transformation into a near legendary DC villain.
