Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes Wears the Crown in New ‘Luke Cage’ Clip!
Firstly, the reviews for Marvel’s latest Netflix endeavor, Luke Cage, are mostly, collectively, and overwhelmingly positive. From Collider, to ComicBeats, and to Den of Geek, it seems the story of Marvel’s latest apprehensive “superhero” is a bonafide success. BUT….lest we forget, a hero is only as compelling as his adversary, and Luke Cage has quite an adversary to contend with in Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes.
In this latest Luke Cage clip, we see Cornell (Mahershala Ali) standing in front of that classic photo of crowned “Biggie.” Why is Cottonmouth a fan? Because the crown is….sizable, and a worthy representation of Cornell’s self-proclaimed criminal kingship.
Oh, and when viewing the image, the eyes immediately rest on the crown. Why? Don’t worry; after a PUNCH to the face, Cornell will grant you an answer: “Cause everybody wants to be the king.”
Now, the comic book version of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes has strength comparable to Luke Cage and an especially gruesome set of razor sharp teeth. It seems the Netflix/Marvel series might diverge from this, at least initially. Is there a chance Stokes might gain his classic comic book abilities later in the series and prove a physically comparable threat to Cage? Hmmm. Maybe.
Beating the hell out of you with a bathroom sink, Luke Cage debuts September 30th on Netflix and stars Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard) Frankie Faison (Pop), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Theo Rossi (Alvarez), Erik LaRay Harvey (Diamondback), Frank Whaley (Detective Scarfe), and Mahershala Ali (Cornell Stokes).
