Is This the Plot to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’??
He’s coming. Can you feel it? In 2018, The Avengers will face their biggest threat when the Mad Titan Thanos finally gets out of his floating chair and wreaks havoc on the galaxy. Avengers: Infinity War is the comic book movie over a decade in the making.
There’s a serious deficiency of information regarding Marvel’s forthcoming, space-born opus, but we do know a few details that have been bandied about by creators, accidentally or otherwise. We know the Russo Brothers are venturing beyond the Captain America franchise and are now responsible for assembling one of the most climactic cinematic events ever to be seen on the big screen! We also know they’ve started pre-production thanks to this behind the scenes snapshot featuring Josh Brolin decked out in CGI gear.
Unfortunately, it’s still too early to figure out which Avengers will be part of the roster, or if any new faces will grace us with their presence (except for maybe Captain Marvel). However, according to an unconfirmed source, we may know some of the details regarding the film’s currently speculated plot. LRM Online used their sources to get the scoop on what makes Thanos begin his quest to unite the gauntlet.
“Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War will feature the Mad Titan Thanos trying to impress the personification of Death (who will be a woman). Thanos assembles all six Infinity Stones and utilizes the Gauntlet to have god-like powers. His grand plan is that Death will also feel love for him if he brings her enough “souls,” so he decides to extinguish half the life in the universe to impress her.”
If that premise seems familiar, it’s because that is essentially the storyline for Infinity Gauntlet written by Jim Starlin. Normally with Marvel movies, the titles of the films have nothing to do with their comic counterparts; take Age of Ultron for example. So, it’s unusual that it seems they are staying close to the source material (with some minor changes).
The Infinity stories are amazing, and could open the door for a bunch of fun, new characters. However, it appears the Russo’s may ditch the new folks, and continue with familiar faces.
Death is coming to the MCU, although there are rumors swirling that the role of Death will be replaced by Cate Blanchett’s Hela (who shows up in Thor: Ragnarok). Considering she’s the ruler of Hel, it’s not that much of a stretch for the character swap. Plus, if you’re going to bring someone like Blanchett on board, you’re not going to want to waste her talents on just one movie. Getting her into Infinity War means more amazing scenes featuring some of the best actors in Hollywood.
One of the most interesting things coming from the report is that of all the characters scheduled to appear, Adam Warlock isn’t one of them. Perhaps with juggling close to 20 Avengers there was no room to fit in Warlock’s origin story. Considering how important he is to the climax of the Infinity Gauntlet comic, it’ll be interesting to see who takes his place. Tony Stark? Peter Quill? Groot? Please let Groot wield the gauntlet!!
Avengers: Infinity War begins filming this November. Once they begin, there are sure to be plenty of set photos and inside sources who will fill in the blanks regarding what we can expect from the impending blockbuster. But in the end, the only way we’ll truly know what happens is when we finally bear witness on May 4th, 2018.
