Batman V Superman sets records? Well that’s not entirely surprising and it looks like the critics have had very little impact on DC and WB’s latest film tent-pole! Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman was garnering a tremendous amount of negative press last week once the early reviews started coming in but despite that, BvS was still projecting a fairly solid opening. Batman V Superman then blew past all expectations and scored a monster of an opening weekend…to the tune of 424.1 million dollars globally! Only out for a week and already a half a billion dollars? I bet those guys over at WB aren’t as concerned as they were about their collective DC movie universe!
Domestically, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opened up to 170 million dollars in 4,242 theaters and scored the biggest Easter Weekend opening yet, up over 13 percent over the last record holder Furious 7. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice now has the 6th biggest North American open of all time and the 4th biggest opening of a superhero movie behind Marvel’s Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3. If we consider the entire world, BvS has the 4th biggest opening behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
