What, you mean they have to wait for Ryan Reynolds? Joking aside, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice producers Charles Rovens and Greg Silverman spoke about the staggering amount of characters already appearing in Dawn of Justice. With Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Flash at least making cameos, one name appeared to be woefully absent from the list – there was no Green Lantern. Didn’t we hear Kevin Smith wax eloquent about the Emerald Knight a few weeks ago during that special? I guess plans change!
“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters,” Greg Silverman said. “There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”
Charles Rovens then added, “Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.” Ouch. Sounds like we may be waiting for quite a few years to see an appearance of DC’s intergalactic space cops. I guess that original Green Lantern movie really made WB gun-shy around ring-slingers! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m kinda sad that there will be no Green Lantern till at least 2020.
