Check out Our Theories on the Identity of Rey’s Father!

It seems like the Star Wars world can never be satisfied. We begged for answers about The Force Awakens before the movie was released, and even afterwards, we’re still asking the same questions that we were before. Who is Snoke? Who is Finn and Rey? Where did they come from? All questions that have yet to be answered. Well, I will attempt to answer one of them today. If you have not seen The Force Awakens, please DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER, there are SPOILERS AHEAD. If you have, enjoy and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Who are Rey’s parents? Everyone is quick to conclude that she’s the daughter of Han and Leia or at least Han and some other woman. Either way, the knee-jerk reaction is generally to side with the idea that Kylo Ren and Rey are siblings in some way. I believe that could be true but I accept the idea that they are related, just not that closely. Furthermore, I believe that Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker. Don’t worry, I have reasons to believe this.

This far-fetched theory is mainly based on two things:

1. A dialogue sequence from one of the trailers.
2. From a comic series granting us insights into the events leading up to The Force Awakens. If you still aren’t buying that theory, I’m throwing in a consolation theory at the end.

 1. Dialogue Sequence in the Second Trailer

About 33 seconds into the trailer you hear Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) start a dialogue sequence stating, “The Force is strong in my family. I have it, my father has it, my sister has it. You have that power, too.” Now, this could be directed at anyone in the film; it could be directed at Finn, Rey or Kylo Ren. However, his tone implies that he is speaking to family hence, “The Force is strong in my family.” The first assumption is Finn, but that wouldn’t work considering Finn was given to the first order and I really doubt that Luke would have done that. It can’t be Kylo Ren, because well… Han is his father and Leia, his mother. This only leaves Rey. Rey showed an exemplary ability to use The Force in the film and is able to connect with Luke on a level comparable to Luke and his father, Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker). There has to be some strange family Force connection floating around out there. The Force Awakens also makes a nod at the original series with a hidden Skywalker child on a desert planet.

2. Star Wars: Shattered Empire: Who is Shara Bey?

If you are keeping up with the new Star Wars: Shattered Empire you would have picked up on the new developments that are leading to fill in the blanks of The Force Awakens story. These new developments are sending some theories into hiatus.

At the beginning of the story, you are introduced to a pilot named Shara Bey and a fighter named Kes Dameron. You quickly learn that these two are married and that their child is the one, the only, Poe Dameron. That should mean that the case is closed and shut right? I think not.  Anything can happen in the Star Wars universe and I will not put the chance of Skywalker’s kid to rest. Shara Bey looks very similar to Rey but Rey shares no similarities with Kes. I’m sure there will be more comics and books released that will help explain what happened, but it doesn’t dismiss the idea that Kes could pass at some point and open up the possibility of a love affair between Shara and Luke. Who else would Luke be talking to at the beginning of the 2nd trailer?

3. What About the Trees?

Ok so if you didn’t believe my theory combining both the trailer and Shara Bey to create a mother and father theory for Rey, there is still hope to figure it out. At the end of the fourth issue of Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Luke Skywalker and Shara Bey go to recover two trees that were in the Jedi temple on Coruscant.

These two trees are linked with the force. This theory completely cuts Luke Skywalker out of the picture. Once the trees were recovered, Luke took one and Shara Bey took the other. Bey took the tree and with Kes, planted the tree in their backyard at their house. This could leave the ability for a spontaneous birth to happen. Much like Anakin, the Force could allow Shara Bey to birth Rey in a fashion that wouldn’t require her to have a father should something happen to Kes.  On the other hand, maybe Kes and Bey do have another child; the presence of the tree could allow for the Force to become strong with the family and with that child. This could also explain why Poe Dameron is such a good pilot (other than the fact his mother is a good pilot). It seems like good pilots are a trait of the Force flowing through you. Think about it: Anakin, Luke, Rey etc.

Who knows what will happen in the coming comic book series and in the coming movies. Other theories are saying that we find out who Rey’s mother is in Rogue One coming out in December of this year. Only time will tell us who it will truly be.
