With not a whole lot going on in Fantastic Four-ville, it seems Fox is ready to go back to hitting the X-Well pretty hard. Not only are movies like X-Men: Apocalypse, Gambit, and Wolverine 3 heading our way, but rumor has it Fox is inching ever-so-closer to launching a live-action X-Series sometime in the possibly-somewhat-near future. Spoiler alert: Morph dies in the first episode.
It seems with the success of other series, like Netflix’s Daredevil and ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (wait, success?), Fox has decided to give the whole TV superhero thing a go. Though Fox has film rights to the X-Characters, a deal needs to be made with Marvel to get things going on the TV front. Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden recently spoke on the topic, stating, “This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox.” This means no characters appearing on the Marvel side of things will be showing up on the yet-to-be-created Fox series.
It was stated by X-Men producer and writer Simon Kinberg in 2014 that the general feeling is that the comic book format lends itself best to series television. Sound logic indeed. Additionally, rumors have pointed to the idea that the series could be based off of Peter David’s X-Factor comic. This, in theory, would tie in to the Fox X-Universe.
More details will soon see the light of day, but so far we do know that Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne will be writing the series co-created by Evan Katz and Manny Coto. So, what do you guys think? Do we want a live-action X-Men show? Should they just run repeats of X-Men: The Animated Series? Should the show be more Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Let us know below!
