What?? But…but I thought there were embattled TV and movie rights struggling for absolute control over the on-screen appearances of a certain Man of Steel!!? And…and I thought that Superman was very much okay with communicating through texts, instant messaging, and glasses-wearing Aardvark memes offering overly cute, surprisingly intelligent self-affirmations! Well, my thinking was apparently very, very wrong since the CW just announced that the first 2 episodes of Supergirl Season 2 will introduce Superman. Well, it won’t take 2 episodes to introduce him; he’ll be introduced, and then guest-star in the first two episodes of Supergirl’s sophomore season.
Producer Andrew Kreisberg expressed his excitement soon after the official announcement: “Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
So, it sounds like they haven’t made a decision regarding the latest actor to adorn the giant, s-shaped Kryptonian symbol for “hope.” A lot of people – and I mean, a LOT of people – would very much like to see Tom Welling (re)don the cape because, y’know, he already portrayed a mostly adolescent Superman for a good number of years on a little show called Smallville. Maybe you heard of it.
Any other possibilities? How about Matt Bomer? Matt who? This guy:
He was the star of USA’s White Collar television series and yes, he looks a hell of a lot like Henry Cavill. The latter point is worth some further discussion; apparently, he was one of the Superman finalists for Man of Steel. Heck, he even provided the voice for animated Superman in Superman: Unbound. He definitely has the look.
