According to reports coming out of Hollywood, Michael Keaton is in early talks to take on the villain role in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.
This would mark a universe-jump for the Oscar-nominated Keaton who famously brought Batman to the big screen in Tim Burton’s 1989 movie of the same name.
Negotiations are in the early stages and there has been no indication of exactly which member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery he would play if signed.
It would be an amusing nod to Keaton’s Oscar nominated performance in Birdman if he were to play the Vulture. Or maybe Morbius? A vampire as an homage to his role as the Dark Knight?
Adding an actor of Keaton’s caliber to the franchise reboot would be a coup. Both a fan-favorite and a critical darling, Keaton would bring a wide-ranging appeal to the movie.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Spider-Man reboot film, is scheduled to hit theaters July 2017. Of course, before the solo film, Spider-Man can be seen in next month’s Captain America: Civil War much to the delight of fans everywhere.
The new Spider-Man film was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and will be directed by Jon Watts. Produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, the new movie will focus on Peter Parker’s teenage high school years.
