I remember a few months back, looking through Previews and seeing that one of the unique things coming out of Secret Wars was Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies. Who wouldn’t grab this on principle alone? My imagination began to run wild with endless waves of robot vs zombie action. Robots vs zombies, there is no way this couldn’t be great. So I thought…
My biggest gripe with Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #1 was the disturbing lack of robots fighting zombies. I mean, it’s in the title! What gives, Marvel, what gives?!? Instead there is maybe a page or two where we see some zombies, we see some Ultrons show up, cut to something else. Look guys, if I’m buying a title called Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies, I’m buying it for the sheer enjoyment of seeing zombies and robots fight. Going in, I’m not expecting much more than that. This should be a fun and exciting slugfest the likes of which we could only see in Battleworld!!! Instead, it’s just kind of boring and slow. Not too much going on; I feel as though a landscape and tone are set here only to abandon and not really do a whole lot with them. Oh, what could have been.
We are left as a band of heroes finds their last hope to defeat the zombies and Ultron for good. Yeah! So we have that going on. I’m going to tough this one out, so I’ll see you soon for issue #2.
