ABC President mulls Star Wars and Marvel shows

There are some things that we should have but don’t. More money at our jobs. Another season or two of Firefly. Music on Music Television. A coherent DC Cinematic Universe. However, the big shocker is our lack of a live-action Star Wars television series. I bet just reading that caused you to realize the last time you saw something new about Star Wars on television was back when the long buried Star Wars Christmas Special came out. Pretty shocking, right? Well it looks like ABC President of Entertainment, Channing Dungey, has some thoughts to share on the future of a Star Wars television show and the future of Marvel programming at ABC! Certainly covering all of our Disney bases, eh?

“As a fan I would absolutely love to say yes,” the ABC President said of when it came to discussing a live action Star Wars television show. “We have had conversations with Lucas and we will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand onto our programming.” A few years back we almost received a television show called Star Wars: Underground which would have followed some of the seedier elements of the Star Wars universe. Unfortunately, that was before Disney acquired Lucasfilm so that project is currently been cast into the void…as far we we know.

Of course ABC is owned in part by Disney which not only owns Star Wars but Marvel as well. However, things haven’t been going so well for Marvel on the cable television side of things. Marvel has been able to knock it out of the park on Netflix but response to Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter have been lukewarm. Agent Carter has been canceled and Agents of SHIELD started off strong but have been hemorrhaging viewers every season. To that regard, ABC declined to pick up Marvel’s Most Wanted and ABC President Channing Dungey said, “We all came to an agreement that the next show that we want to do together is something that is as creatively strong as it can be. Responding to a question regarding an interlocking serial drama like Jessica Jones or Daredevil, she replied, “That’s an interesting question, and we have talked a little bit about that, yes.”
