Wait, JJ Abrams had enough time during Star Wars: The Force Awakens to guerrilla-shoot another Cloverfield movie? Cheeky little monkey! Those that went to check out Michael Bay’s Benghazi film were treated with the above trailer featuring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Instead of the found-footage style of the first movie, it looks like 10 Cloverfield Lane is slightly different…and by slightly I mean completely! From what I can tell, the couple spends their time in John Goodman’s fallout shelter but then things get a little bonkers. Have they never heard of ‘Cabin Fever’? Nobody ever does well in those things unless you are Christopher Walken and Brendan Fraser! Joking aside, this trailer does look really interesting and exceptionally tense.
JJ Abrams also went on to release this statement, which connects both the original film and its secret sequel. ““The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.” You definitely have to give him that…nobody saw a sequel to Cloverfield coming!
Written by Josh Campbell, Matt Stuecken, and Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) and directed by Dan Trachtenberg, 10 Cloverfield Lane opens March 11th, 2016. I guess that’s pretty much right around the corner!
