Oh, the internet…you guys can be so crazy! Recently, there’s been a Change.Org petition floating around to get George Lucas to come back and direct Star Wars Episode 9. I guess people didn’t get enough of Jar-Jar or the word ‘youngling’ from the prequels…or that stunning dialogue from Anakin Skywalker. I HATE SAND! Eh, ahem. Joking aside, Colin Trevorrow then responded to said petition. Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, is clearly very passionate about the tremendous responsibility he has to wrap up the new-NEW set of 3 Star Wars movies.

“It’s funny, I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we’re going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy. When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie’s about — if you’ve never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here’s a character. His father’s part robot, but he can also do magic. And there’s a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He’s got a dog for a friend!’ — it sounds insane. But it’s the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it.”

What a diplomatic response! George Lucas has been in the news a lot recently, and there is definitely a small vocal minority that clamors for his return. I doubt that Change.Org petition will do much to change Disney’s mind but then again, I’ve seen a giant metal orbital space station destroyed because somebody forgot to close a vent. Stranger things have happened, no?
