Look, it is okay to steal the plans for the Death Star…but not the HD version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens! The Force Awakens Blu-ray leaked Tuesday and within 12 hours it was already downloaded a quarter million times! Jeez, that didn’t take long. Disney was already hard at work taking down hand-camera versions ahead of the April 1st release of The Force Awakens but it has become somewhat of an exponential problem. Disney has Google taking down links but that does not prevent major torrent websites from operating. That’s probably something more for the internet service providers and lawyers would be my guess.
Will The Force Awakens Blu-ray leak effect the sales of the upcoming home release? As stated earlier, Star Wars first comes out on April 1st but that will be digital only. The DVD and Blu-ray release come several days later on April 5th. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently the top grossing US movie of all time and made a truly staggering amount of money world-wide (though it is only the 3rd highest grossing movie globally).
