Possible spoilers (in the form of wild speculation) for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Now I know this sounds crazy but stick with me! I’ve seen a particularly virulent rumor floating around the magical series of tubes and that is that Jared Leto’s Joker in the DC Expanded Universe is a former Robin! I know, I know…pure crazy but there might be something to it.
What is giving this rumor such traction is some heavy handed speculation and some interpretation of the Suicide Squad and Batman Vs. Superman trailers. Originally I believed that people have a hard time with this version of the Joker and are looking at a way to discredit or warp his existence but that’s probably just me. They look at the Robin tattoo and and similar scaring on the Robin costume and upper torso of Jared Leto as well as the writing on the Robin costume, taunting Batman about the joke being on him.
If this all sounds absolutely bonkers to you that the Joker could be a former Robin know this…it has happened in the comics and television before! In the “Dark Knight” series from Frank Miller, Dick Grayson eventually becomes the Joker and something very similar happened in the animated Batman series (involving some brain washing). It would be pretty warped if Batman had killed the Joker (which happened in the Frank Miller version) and his former protege became the new Joker. Ugh, the twisted irony!
What do you think of this potential theory? Is it mere fan speculation or is this the direction Zack Snyder is heading?
