Somebody get the Emperor in here from Star Wars to yell, “UNLIMTED POWER!” Ahem. In a recent press conference, Joe Russo spoke to some effect regarding the Scarlet Witch’s power level in Captain America Civil War. Joe Russo is one of the directors of Captain America: Civil War and is currently scheduled to help bring Infinity War to bare. In Captain America: Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron we saw the Scarlet Witch’s power grow but as fans of the comic know, the Scarlet Witch’s power is one of the greatest in the universe. She can basically manipulate and rewrite reality, even going so far to make the world at one point mutant-dominated and then flipping the switch and getting rid of all but a hundred or so mutants. Sheesh!

She is on a growth arc, and it is part of her development,” said Joe Russo. “It is very tricky with powerful characters, because unless they have an internal struggle or a flaw that limits them then they do become limitless, and the storytelling becomes muddled and not very interesting.” He is right, there – nobody would be that interested in seeing some nigh invincible person right off the bat but if it is organic we would be more accepting of her abilities. Perhaps she’ll even bring back Quicksilver at the end the movie!

You know she could’ve stopped that fight at the airport in 5 seconds if she were at the peak of her powers, so it really has to do with her character specifically going on a journey to understand what the limits of her powers are,” Russo added. “She makes a mistake very early in the movie that sets her back, and we’ll get to see where she goes in Infinity War.” Captain America: Civil War opens up on May 6th, 2016 and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Daniel Brühl.
