The last big comic book movie of the summer is almost here. Suicide Squad drops on August 5th, and given the title of the movie and the nature of the source material, a fair dose of carnage can be expected.
Who will live? Who will die? Here at The Source, we’re breaking it down for you with the survival odds on the characters who are confirmed to be part of the movie. These odds are unofficial at best, but wagering is still highly recommended.
JOKER: 1,000,000 to 1.
The trailers suggest that Leto’s Joker and the Suicide Squad will be at odds in the movie, but there is no way that they snuff the Clown Prince of Crime, especially with a solo Ben Affleck Batman movie in the works. Even if the Joker does meet his apparent ultimate fate on the screen, he’ll cheat death the same way he has time and time again in the comics.
HARLEY QUINN: 5,000 to 1.
Played by Margot Robbie, Harley Quinn has been the focal point of the marketing campaign surrounding this movie and her look drew its fair share of controversy in online reactions… at least until we saw Jared Leto’s incarnation of the Joker. Realistically, there is no way they kill her off. Too much money to be made.
DEADSHOT: 1,000 to 1.
The ace marksman of the DC Universe has been a staple on a variety of different Squad rosters since first joining the team in 1987. Yes, Deadshot did get killed off during the New 52 run–only to be reincarnated–but he’s being played by Will Smith, easily the biggest star attached to this movie.
KILLER CROC: 50 to 1.
Played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko from Lost) and described by the actor as a “cannibal with rage issues,” Croc is one of the strongest–and toughest–foes in Batman’s gallery of rogues. He’s survived quite a bit, and cheated death a few times as well.
BOOMERANG: 5 to 1.
Jai Courtney plays the part of the boomerang-throwing bad guy who’s best known in the DC Universe for his tussles with the Flash. In the comics, Boomerang was a less-than-ideal teammate on several occasions. Might he turn traitor in the movies? If so, that increases his likelihood of demise.
KATANA: 4 to 1.
The sword-wielding Katana is best known in the comics for being part of teams–whether it be the Outsiders or the Justice League–and she’ll be part of the Squad on the big screen, serving as Flag’s bodyguard according to Empire. Will Katana (played by Karen Fukuhara) end up being collateral damage?
RICK FLAG: 2 to 1.
Rick Flag was the leader in
the field for the very first version of the Suicide Squad. Then he got killed off. Later, Flag’s son, Rick Flag, Jr., picked up the mantle of his departed father… and was bumped off as well. Add it up, and it’s not looking so good that Flag (played by Joel Kinnaman) will be part of a Suicide Squad sequel.
AMANDA WALLER: Even money.
As the individual in charge of the Suicide Squad, and their surgically implanted detonators, Waller is not afraid to blow up a few eggs to make her omelet. Two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis, who is playing Waller, read up on sociopathic behavior to prepare for the part, according to Empire. As the real villain of the movie, she’s a leading candidate to end up deceased.
Wild Cards!
ENCHANTRESS:
Part of the original roster of the Suicide Squad, this sinister sorceress reportedly will not be part of the on-screen team according to Empire. If she’s an adversary, that diminishes the survival odds of the Enchantress, who’s being played by supermodel Cara Delevingne.
EL DIABLO:
Three different DC characters have gone by El Diablo but only one — this one — has had a superpower: namely, the ability to summon and control flames (pyrokinesis, for you sticklers). That’s an impressive but potentially unstable power that could lead to El Diablo (played by Jay Hernandez) being inadvertently cremated.
There are rumors that other DC characters will make appearances in the movie. The suggested additions have included Hugo Strange, Deathstroke and King Shark. It will be interesting to see just how many members of the rogues’ gallery end up joining in the cinematic mayhem… and how many survive to the end of the film.
Do you agree with these odds? Who will actually make it to the end of DC’s Suicide Squad?? SOUND OFF!
