Countdown to WandaVision: An Appreciation of Darcy Lewis

Who says side characters can’t catch a break when it comes to big-budget shows? Fans of the underdogs will be happy to know that Thor’s Darcy Lewis as played by Kat Jennings and Ant-Man’s Jimmy Woo as played by Randall Park will both be making their comebacks in WandaVision when it debuts this Friday.

As a former student of political science at Culver University, Doctor Darcy Lewis served as an intern for Erik Selvig and was once (or still?) Jane Foster’s assistant. What exactly has the new Mighty Thor’s loveable colleague been up to since we last saw her in Thor: The Dark World? What’s even more interesting is that none of the other human characters have come back to either the small screen or big screen. What exactly makes the eccentric Darcy so special that she seems to have been handpicked to return?

Of course, we’ll never really know the actual answer to that until January 15th, but suffice it to say that fans greatly appreciate the particular brand of comic relief that Darcy brings to the stage. Don’t let her quirkiness fool you, though—she’s as brilliant at brilliance will ever be, and director Matt Shakman agrees. Throwing us a bone as to what Darcy’s been up to so far, he says, “She’s gone on to become Dr. Darcy Lewis now. So, she’s a real expert in her field.”

This statement is actually even more interesting when you think about the context of her first appearance in Thor. Erik Selvig initially thought that she was a scientist, to which she replied that she’s actually in political science. But even then, she was the first to notice the so-called anomaly that brought Thor’s presence to Earth through the Bifrost Bridge. This only means that Darcy is a natural when it comes to assessing situations and detecting inconsistencies, which is why it’s no surprise that she is now, as mentioned, a “real expert” in the field. She’s also one tough cookie above all else, because while her easygoing demeanor makes it seem like she’s easily underestimated, let’s not forget that she herself went through a terrible ordeal with the Dark Elves and lived to tell the tale.

Because she will be teaming up with Agent Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp, we’ll definitely be seeing more of her brainy antics as they work together for S.W.O.R.D., which is short for Sentient World Observation and Response Department (it’s the sister organization of S.H.I.E.L.D.). It has also been speculated that they will work alongside Captain Marvel‘s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), albeit now an adult version of what we last saw in the movie.

Is it that obvious that we’re just too excited about the show that we can’t stop blabbering on and on about it? What are YOU looking forward to the most when the series debuts this Friday? Let us know your thoughts and feels in the comments section below!
