So how does a soon-to-be-released online multiplayer shooter have a story? How about through different forms of media! Blizzard has approached their latest game, Overwatch, with an inventive and creative touch. They’ve decided to release shorts, music albums, comics, and novels following the exploits of the various villains and heroes of Overwatch. The above is the Overwatch Trailer ‘Alive’ which features Widowmaker, an ice-cold sniper, and Tracer, Overwatch’s flagship character. Widowmaker is tasked with an assassination while Tracer is set in opposition. The 6-minute Overwatch Trailer ‘Alive’ definitely has some tinges of Pixar…if Pixar had a tons of weapons and grenades floating around.
As per the description for Overwatch Trailer ‘Alive’, “Set your sights on the latest animated short from Overwatch, Blizzard’s upcoming team-based shooter. Then play FREE during the Open Beta May 5-9! “Alive” weaves a tale of Widowmaker, the peerless Talon assassin who stalks her prey with deadly efficiency. In this episode, we spend a fateful night in London’s King’s Row—where you’ll discover how one death can change everything.” I’ve played in the beta and let’s just say that this game is going to be huge; you can’t go wrong with a fast-paced first person shooter game with a heavy emphasis on class-based cooperation. Reflexes and thinking power all rolled up into one!
