Boba Fett in Rogue One?

Could one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy be preparing for a return to the big screen?

Since Disney announced Star Wars spin-off films were coming, many fans were looking at ways to shoehorn in their favorite Mandalorian.

There was the rumored Josh Trank movie which some assumed would be about Boba Fett, but that was cancelled following Trank’s last debacle, Fan4stic.

With Chris Lord and Phil Miller at the helm of a Han Solo spin-off… maybe you fit in his arch nemesis. Because of the new batch of films and the infinite number of avenues one could take to reintroduce Boba Fett, the internet has been swirling with the idea that maybe we’ll get to see Boba Fett back on the big screen this year!

Here is a picture from a LEGO press conference held this past weekend. See if anything stands out.

Some have noticed that there is a new series coming this year, with what appears to have Cloud City as a setting. In between that and new LEGO sets for Rebels and The Original Trilogy was a previously unannounced set for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The image used is what appears to be Boba Fett’s ship, Slave I.

What the what!!?? Could Fett actually appear in the first official spin-off? I mean anything is possible… but how would it work?

When we last saw Fett, he was slowly being devoured in the Sarlacc Pit. Good news for him, Rogue One takes place before the disaster on Jabba’s sail barge. Very little is known about Rogue One, but we do know it takes place before the events in A New Hope as the Rebel Alliance steals the original plans for the first Death Star. You’re telling me the Empire wouldn’t enlist the help of one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy to stop the Rebels? If Darth Vader is supposed to have a big role, then why not Boba?

It could even be just a cameo. Consider this: Boba Fett gained a huge following after appearing in The Empire Strikes Back despite only appearing in the original cut for a whole six minutes and thirty two seconds!!! If six and a half minutes were good enough for a first impression, then one scene should be good enough to hold over Star Wars fans.

Now there is an argument against a Fett appearance. First, the ship in the LEGO image appears to be a different color, meaning it could just be a different version of the Firespray-31-Class vessel. It would make sense – considering LEGO already sells an expensive version of Slave I – that the image could be of another similar, but different ship (like Poe Dameron’s X-Wing, compared to Luke’s). It also wouldn’t be the first time Brick Fans got ahead of themselves. Remember when LEGO fans thought a spoiler was found in the Force Awakens Millennium Falcon set? The character Tasu Leech appeared as a minifigure, but had such a small role in the movie his inclusion in the set was a throwaway.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story doesn’t hit theaters until December 16th. If Boba Fett does make an appearance, that would be awesome. However, with plenty more spin-offs to come, it only seems like a matter of time before we get confirmation that the Mandalorian warrior will once again grace the silver screen.
