Well, they’re back. The televised, live-action dynamic duo from the 1960s, known for battling sharks, avoiding tiger pits, and disarming giant mousetraps, are back….but this time, they’re animated. Yep, based on the seriously campy and overtly colorful 1960s Batman TV series that “KAPOWed” and “BLAMMed” fans in the face from 1966 to 1968 on the ABC network, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders continues the adventures of millionaire-philanthropist Bruce Wayne, and his ward who’s always amenable to action, Dick Grayson! Look up! Press play! Drown yourself in psychedelia-tinged, tongue-in-cheek nostalgia!
What’s especially exciting regarding this DC animated feature BESIDES the daring escapes that usually include angry animals, life-sized, whack-a-mole death traps, and an array of impossible, bat-themed accessories built specifically to deal with said angry animals and whack-a-mole death traps? Why, that would be the stellar voice cast. Yep, the classics are back as Adam West reprises Batman, Burt Ward excitedly exclaims the obvious through terrible puns as Robin, the Boy Wonder, and Julie Newmar returns to seduce the hell out of everyone without even trying as Catwoman.
“Holy entree, Batman! What foes do we face?”
“Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman, on Earth and in space.”
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is available on Digital HD on October 11th, and Blu-Ray on November 1st.
