Apparently while working on indie film Pilgrimage, actors Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland sent several tapes to Marvel studios auditioning for some certain roles. If you recognize their names it is because Jon Bernthal will be playing the Punisher in the upcoming season of Daredevil while Tom Holland can be spotted in the most recent Civil War trailer as Spider-Man! I guess Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland had some good luck, eh? “We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher,” said Bernthal. “During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel — just acting together.” Continuing, Bernthal joked, “These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.”
Tom Holland also seemed to have some extra luck with not only making tapes with Jon Bernthal, but having met Chris Hemsworth on In The Heart of the Sea. “I emailed him while I was auditioning for the film and said, ‘So can you maybe put in a good word for me?’” said Tom Holland, whilst referring to Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth, the Mighty God of Thunder, then went the extra mile and said, “I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting (Spider-Man) and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, ‘Look for what it’s worth you’re not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy.” Aww, how very noble of him! It is always nice to see actors working together and at least we know of some off-stage camaraderie among the likes of Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland!
