Somebody insert the stock Darth Vader-at-the-end-of-Revenge-of-the-Sith ‘nooooooo!’ Rumors were circulating that Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII was going back for some rewrites but that wasn’t going to effect the scheduled release but apparently…it is! See why I went with the ‘nooo’ intro? Word on the street is that the rewrites center around reception of the characters and how Rey, Finn, and Poe were going to get bigger parts with more screen time. Here is the official statement from Disney regarding Star Wars 8:

“Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017. The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December. In the popular holiday moviegoing corridor, it smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861M and the third biggest global release ever with $1.887B.”

Argh! So there you have it. At least on the bright side of things that Skywalker beard should be pretty damn epic by the time it is all said and done. Are you happy with this news? I’m glad that they are taking their time…but a 7 month extension gets a little worrisome. Either way I’m sure it will be fine, although we all must reluctantly wait another half of a year. SKYWALKER COULD HAVE AT LEAST SAID SOMETHING! Ahem. Sorry about that!
