Legends of Tomorrow affords both the CW and DC a fair amount of wiggle room within what stories they can do and which ones they can reference. Hey, when you have a time machine involved you can get in all sorts of adventures, right Marty McFly and Guy Pearce? Recently, executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke to Entertainment Weekly and said that we can expect Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow to show up in episode 6 of Legends of Tomorrow. Not only will he be sporting the iconic goatee, but he will also be missing an arm as a Dark Knight nod!

It wasn't me, it was the one-armed man!

For those of you unfamiliar with the comic series Dark Knight by Frank Miller, it basically shows off a dystopian world where Batman was retired, came back, and got into a fight with Superman. Gee, that sounds a little familiar. Long story short, Batman calls in a favor from Green Arrow and well…you should probably read the book (or cheat and go read the Wikipedia entry).

“Every once and a while, we do an episode where the 10-year-old me has to pinch himself,” stated Guggenheim. “We’re not only introducing our version of Connor Hawke to our universe, we’re going to meet the 2046 version of Oliver Queen, and Stephen Amell is going to be reprising his role from Arrow. As an added bonus to comic-book fans, Oliver is missing his left arm and will be sporting a goatee, in a nod to the character’s appearance in the seminal Dark Knight Returns. We think this episode features some of the coolest things we’ve ever done.” A real shame we can’t see a small screen version of Frank Miller’s ultra haggard Batman and Superman throwing down but at least we still get this sweet Dark Knight nod!
