It looks like the Netflix/Marvel cooperative is increasing their output and matching the more aggressive pace set by Marvel Studios, having noticeably increased their number of movie releases in 2017 and beyond. Who’s granting us this informative slice of insider intel?? That would be actress Krysten Ritter, star of the acclaimed Marvel/Netflix series, Jessica Jones (and Jessica Jones Season 2, of course). In an interview with our friends at Digital Spy, Ritter revealed that Jessica Jones Season 2 and The Defenders, the highly anticipated, Netflix-centric crossover event, are shooting back to back.
The actress explained, “They’ll be back-to-back. I don’t know if they’ll overlap a little bit. It’s about to be a serious undertaking. I’m starting my physical training – lots of weight training and boxing.”
Given the characters’ previous “relationship,” will we see Jessica make an appearance in the forthcoming Luke Cage series? “Marvel have this grand plan,” the actress explained. “Luke Cage will come out, then Iron Fist. In terms of scheduling I don’t know how it will all come out and I can’t even tell you if I’ve filmed Luke Cage. But I’m excited for Mike to have his own show. I know the tone of that show is going to be very different. We couldn’t expose a lot of Luke’s back story because he was getting his own show, so we explored him through Jessica’s point of view. I think that helped give him mystery and tees up his show.”
Ritter also talked about what viewers can expect when Jessica Jones returns in her second solo series. Thankfully, it continues the story and builds on the open plot threads left dangling from season one.
“I’m excited to see what happens next for Jessica, and the end of season one left a lot of doors open and questions unanswered. Kilgrave was her reason for getting up every morning. Saving people gave her purpose. I wonder how emotionally taxed she’s going to be now. That opens a lot of doors as to who will come out and play. We all live in the same universe, so there are endless possibilities.”
So, we have Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones Season 2, The Defenders, Daredevil Season 3 and the Punisher?? The Marvel/Netflix corner of New York is probably going to see a sizable increase in damaged infrastructure. Mark my words.
