The lineup is beginning to get stacked for the impending Infinity War. Aside from the usual Avengers that are showing up, the movie will be enlisting the help of a handful of new heroes and villains. From Captain Marvel to The Guardians of the Galaxy, to the rumored Peter Dinklage role, Marvel is sparing no expense at making Infinity War one of the most loaded blockbusters of all time.
Get ready to add yet another name to that list.
One character who was pivotal to the Infinity Gauntlet comic series is now being enlisted to battle it out in the Infinity War film. Say hello, again, to the android daughter of Thanos, Nebula. The news comes from a new BBC interview with Karen Gillan, the beauty behind the blue-skinned assassin. Gillan talked about her future film lineup including The Circle and Jumanji, and then dropped a bombshell.
“So look out for those. And then I’ll be making a little appearance in the next Avengers movies.”
She just nonchalantly dropped major news as if it was nothing. Sure, Gillan has become a hot commodity and her IMDB page is blooming at a supersonic rate, but Marvel can’t be happy that a potential major character for Infinity War has been revealed. And look at how she phrased her quote. She’s not only going to appear in Infinity War, but also the fourth, still untitled Avengers movie set to be released in 2019.
While there are sure to be future updates when characters like Thunderbolt Ross or James Rhodes receive 100% confirmation, the notion that Nebula is appearing in Infinity War is an extremely intriguing one. As previously mentioned, she was a big part of Infinity Gauntlet where her adoptive father, Thanos, used the power of the Infinity Gauntlet to torture her and transform her into a zombie-like creature. However, by the end, it was Nebula who took the Gauntlet for herself and undid all of Thanos’ cosmic transgressions. She was crucial to the events in the comic, and perhaps that’s exactly what happens in the big screen adaptation.
If Gillan’s version of Nebula is set to follow in the footsteps of her comic book counterpart, it will be interesting to see her character arc unfold in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
With what we’ve seen from promotional art, Nebula will be forced to work alongside The Guardians in whatever their mission might be. So, perhaps working to aid some good guys won’t exactly sit well with Thanos, and he’ll bring her back to his floating chair castle-thing where she’ll remain until the Infinity War begins. Or, perhaps Nebula will be the one who collects all of the Infinity Stones for Thanos to use. Anything can happen between now and May 2018, when the movie finally hits theaters.
So, add one name to Team Thanos for Infinity War. Between now and the movie’s release, there will be more actors added and plenty more names released into the ether. However, for one day, we should sit back and rejoice that Nebula is part of the growing cast. It proves that while there is a plethora of differences between the movies and comics, Marvel still knows you can’t mess with certain characters’ destinies.
