Remember when we told you about Willem Dafoe joining the cast of Justice League? Well, his involvement was definitely confirmed, but the identity of his role was, at the time, completely unknown and therefore prone to intense speculation (which we gleefully took part in). Putting an end to said speculation and swirling, rapidly produced rumors, Warner Brothers finally revealed Willem Dafoe’s Justice League character!
According to Warner Brothers, Willem Dafoe will be playing Vulko, trusted friend and adviser to your favorite orange-colored King of the Seven Seas, Aquaman! And by the way, we totally called it. Okay, he was one of 5 suggestions, but he was part of the pool and therefore…we totally called it.
Who’s Vulko? Created by Bob Haney and Howard Purcell and first introduced in 1967, Vulko was, as previously mentioned, a trusted adviser and friend to Aquaman. In his reintroduction during DC’s New 52 initiative, Vulko went as far as inciting an Atlantean war in order to facilitate Aquaman’s return to the throne. Talk about loyalty…
So, what do you think about Dafoe as Vulko? Excited? Disappointed? Both? Sound off!
Hitting theaters on November 17th, 2017, Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder (under intensive studio oversight) and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons and Amber Heard.
