Well, it’s official: actor Woody Harrelson has been confirmed for the currently untitled HAN SOLO film tracking the adventures of a younger Han Solo. In our previous report, we mentioned Lucasfilm and Disney’s interest in filling a mentor-like role for the film with considerable star power. Christian Bale was in contention, but it looks like Katniss Everdeen’s former mentor will be trading up to affect the behavior of a certain scandalous sci-fi staple.
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller offered the following statement regarding Harrelson’s very recent casting.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
Hmm, I wonder if the line “he is also very good at ping pong” is implying a preternatural affinity for athleticism held by Harrelson’s currently unnamed character. Or, perhaps his acumen lies in the handling of paddle-shaped weapons? Perhaps I’m inferring incorrectly.
Alden Ehrenreich leads the cast as a younger Han Solo, but beyond a meeting with Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian, very little is known of the plot other than its apparent focus on “the early scoundrel days of the iconic characters, prior to A New Hope.”
Trust me. When more details hit, you’ll be hearing them from me.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the currently untitled HAN SOLO film debuts May 25th, 2018, and stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson as someone especially intolerant of Han Solo, and Emila Clarke.
