Who Else Is Showing Up in Infinity War? (You Probably Forgot All About Her)

It feels like only yesterday when The Avengers finally came together on the big screen. Seeing Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye take on an alien invasion was, at one point, the highlight of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hard to believe that combination first came together five years ago!

Wear THIS, and maybe you reconnect with characters that were mostly forgettable.

In the time since then, more heroes and villains have come and gone. Eight additional movies have been released, and another four are coming out before the third Avengers outing, Infinity War, finally hits theaters. The movie is racking up an impressive guest list, including Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and even The Guardians of the Galaxy… but now someone you completely forgot about is also scheduled to make their MCU return in the upcoming Infinity War.

The Telegraph talked about how the Avengers will be shooting in Scotland while rattling off a list of names expected to be part of the production. The regulars like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson were obviously named, as well as someone we haven’t heard from in some time: Liv Tyler.

That’s right… Tyler is apparently going to return as Dr. Betty Ross.

Look who’s back… back again. Betty’s back… tell a friend!

It’s interesting, since Ross hasn’t even been mentioned since her singular appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Even her father, Thunderbolt Ross, showed up in Civil War last year, and he didn’t bring up his daughter at all. Ten years since she first arrived, the former love interest of Bruce Banner will be back (I guess to spoil the budding romance for Banner and Romanoff).

I bet you never expected to read a story about Betty Ross when you woke up this morning! Which begs the following question: what other forgotten Phase 1 characters should get the same opportunity to reappear for Infininty War? There are countless characters that led, directly or indirectly, to the Avengers’ formation, and they all deserve their moment in the sun… again. So, with that said, here are five other forgotten MCU characters that should get the chance to appear in Infinity War.

– Emil Blonsky/The Abomination

the abomination
A whole decade without me? How has the MCU survived?

If we’re wondering where Ross has been the past decade, the same could be said about Blonsky. He was taken into custody, but where is he now? A Marvel one-shot mentioned The Abomination was being held in a S.H.I.EL.D. prison… but where? Is he still there, or could Blonsky have been released once Hydra infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D.? Answers need to be given regarding Blonsky’s whereabouts, and we can get those answers when Blonsky shows up to challenge the Hulk in Infinity War. Ten years is a long time for these questions to be lingering, and perhaps the Russo Brothers can answer them.

– Samuel Sterns/The Leader

Remember that whole Leader guy I was supposed to become? Me neither!

Let’s look at another cliffhanger courtesy of The Incredible Hulk: the fate of Dr. Samuel Sterns. When we last saw the doctor, he was going under a metamorphosis after Bruce Banner’s synthetic blood began pouring into his open wound. That was supposed to be his first steps to becoming The Leader. However, 12 movies have been added to the MCU and Sterns has yet to be mentioned. Clearly, he’s not a threat anymore, but I would like to know why.

Let’s just say that if Thanos needs to open a portal to get to Earth in Infinity War, perhaps Sterns could be the one to help him out. It’s a better use of the character then just forgetting about him altogether.

– Justin Hammer

Tony Stark isn’t the only guy yo make an Armani Suit look good!

Simply put, the world needs more Sam Rockwell. He was a bright spot in Iron Man 2 (a movie that most people don’t care for). Hammer did make an appearance in the Marvel one-shot All Hail the King as a Seagate Prison inmate (ala Luke Cage) alongside the “faux Mandarin,” Trevor Slattery.

His Hammer Industry weapons did show up in the Netflix series Luke Cage. So Justin Hammer still has an impact on the goings on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What businessman is better suited to take advantage of an alien threat? The world needs Justin Hammer, Tony Stark needs Hammer, and more importantly, the fans need more Sam Rockwell… uh… I mean Justin Hammer.

– Raza & The Ten Rings

Maybe he was The Mandarin all along!

Remember Raza from the first Iron Man? The Ten Rings seemed destined to play a major role throughout the MCU, but were turned into a ruse for Iron Man 3. Then, in All Hail the King, the Ten Rings were real and were being run by the true Mandarin. By bringing Raza back into the fold, you’re admitting the real Mandarin is out there, playing with his ten alien rings that give him his powers. Hmmm… alien jewelry? Seems like something Thanos would be interested in.

Giving us Raza in Infinity War would set up another threat for Tony Stark to deal with in the future, or even Doctor Strange if RDJ isn’t available (Strange and Mandarin have that whole mysticism connection).

– Red Skull

No one just forgets about The Red Skull!

So, where did he go? In Captain America: The First Avenger, Johann “Red Skull” Schmidt dissipated after coming in contact with The Tesseract. What we didn’t know at the time was that the glowing box was actually The Space Stone which opens portals across the galaxy. Red Skull was thrust across the cosmos which has to mean one thing: he has encountered Thanos!

Red Skull should have been in more Captain America movies, but perhaps it’s best to save him for something better. Imagine Schmidt being the main antagonist in Infinity War, leading Thanos’ army into battle on Earth which saves the big purple guy for Avengers 4. It’s been too long since Red Skull has graced the MCU, so it’s up to the Russo Brothers to rectify that situation.

So, what do you think? Are there any other characters from Marvel’s Phase 1 that should reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let us know in the usual place!
